Nigerian oil tycoon Emeka Offor has donated medicine worth N1 billion ($24.36 million) to support health facilities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones through the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF).
The donation will support the delivery of healthcare services in the country. Earlier this year, the foundation donated medicine and medical supplies to Anambra State.
In a statement, SEOF Coordinator Tony Obi said the foundation has closely monitored the distribution and use of donated medicine and medical supplies to ensure the maximum benefit for recipients.
He added that more than 50 percent of the foundation’s annual budget has been deployed for corporate social responsibility projects.
Offor is the founder and executive vice chairman of the Nigerian conglomerate Chrome Group, which he established in 1994. Its interests span oil and gas, power, logistics, insurance, broadcasting and telecom.
His foundation serves as the corporation’s philanthropic arm and focuses on initiatives to support education and health and empower the underprivileged in Nigeria.
In 2016, Offor reportedly donated $10 million to the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia to support the fight against river blindness in Nigeria.
It was the largest gift that the center had received from an African donor at the time of donation.
