Jaggaer, a procurement and software provider owned by Vista Equity Partners, the investment powerhouse led by Black billionaire Robert F. Smith, is preparing for a major expansion of its global operations.
The company plans to increase its workforce to about 500 employees over the next few years, supported by the launch of a new global capability center (GCC) in Hyderabad, the capital of India’s Telangana state.
The center, which was inaugurated last week, currently employs 180 people. From this base, Jaggaer expects to more than double its headcount, strengthening Hyderabad’s reputation as one of Asia’s most attractive hubs for global firms seeking engineering and AI expertise.
Jaggaer expands in Hyderabad tech sector
The facility will focus on software development, cloud operations, IT services, and work on Jaggaer’s Agentic AI platform, all of which will feed into solutions for customers in manufacturing, higher education, consumer goods, retail, and government.
The move also highlights a wider trend in India’s fast-growing GCC sector, which has become a destination for multinational companies setting up technology and innovation hubs. Industry body Nasscom reports that more than 1,580 such centers now operate across India, employing nearly 1.7 million people.
Hyderabad, in particular, has emerged as a preferred city by offering incentives and building a strong profile in AI development. For Jaggaer, investing in the region provides access to a deep pool of skilled talent while helping manage costs in a highly competitive procurement software market dominated by players such as SAP Ariba and Coupa.
Vista bets on Jaggaer’s expansion
Vista Equity Partners’ backing has given Jaggaer the confidence to pursue this kind of growth. Vista, led by billionaire founder Robert F. Smith, acquired Jaggaer in August 2024, recognizing the company’s comprehensive procurement platform and potential for expansion.
Jaggaer’s technology integrates the entire source-to-pay process, from sourcing and spend management to contracting, invoicing, and supply chain oversight. Today, more than 1,400 customers around the world rely on its AI-driven platform to organize data and automate critical procurement tasks.
For Smith, who Bloomberg ranks as America’s second-richest Black billionaire with a net worth of $11.1 billion, Jaggaer fits neatly into Vista’s long-term playbook. Since 2012, when Vista managed just $3.5 billion, the firm has grown to oversee more than $100 billion in assets.
Over that period, it has supported more than 85 software companies and completed over 600 transactions worth $320 billion. Vista’s reputation has been built on a steady, disciplined approach to scaling enterprise technology businesses and creating value over time.
Opportunities rooted in people and place
Jaggaer’s new base in Hyderabad reflects both that philosophy and the direction the procurement software industry is moving.
With artificial intelligence now central to enterprise technology, the ability to draw on local talent while serving a global customer base could prove decisive.
For Smith and Vista, it shows once again how strategic investments in software continue to create opportunities that cut across industries and geographies.
