Cloudmania, the distribution arm of Liquid C2, a Cassava Technologies subsidiary owned by Strive Masiyiwa, the richest man in Zimbabwe, has expanded its partnership with Nasdaq-listed AvePoint (AVPT) to increase data security and accelerate the adoption of secure cloud computing across Africa.
The deal will see Cloudmania distribute AvePoint’s specialized data protection, governance, migration, and SaaS management tools across the continent, expanding its Microsoft-focused portfolio and giving partners and resellers access to globally proven solutions.
Creating Africa's digital future
Through its partnership with AvePoint, Cloudmania can now deliver Microsoft-based solutions across the continent. The partnership gives partners and resellers the tools they need to simplify digital operations, stay compliant with regulations, and enhance cybersecurity.
Built on Microsoft Azure and supported by regional data centres, AvePoint’s solutions meet local data residency requirements while providing a more affordable alternative to traditional backup systems.
Africa’s cloud market is among the fastest-growing worldwide, fuelled by rising digitisation in banking, telecoms, and government. Growing cyber threats and tighter regulations are driving stronger demand for improved data protection and management. The Cloudmania–AvePoint deal aims to meet this demand and accelerate the modernisation of IT infrastructure across African economies.
Expanding Cloudmania’s role
Since its launch, Cloudmania has grown into an important channel for cloud distribution in Africa, working with Microsoft and other global technology providers. The AvePoint agreement strengthens its offering and positions Cloudmania as a go-to hub for cloud and cybersecurity solutions.
Liquid C2, its cloud arm, is behind this push, which includes partnerships with Microsoft, Google Cloud, and Cloudflare. For AvePoint, a long-time Microsoft partner, the collaboration is part of its global push into emerging markets, with Africa seen as a key growth region.
“This partnership is another significant milestone in our journey to becoming the leading provider of cloud solutions in Africa,” said Oswald Jumira, CEO of Liquid C2. “It allows us to deliver world-class tools that strengthen our partners’ capabilities and open new opportunities for innovation.”
Across the continent, many enterprises are adopting cloud services but still struggle with security and management challenges. Recent ransomware attacks and data breaches in financial services, government, and telecoms highlight these risks. By bringing AvePoint’s solutions to the market, Cloudmania hopes to help African organisations move to the cloud more securely while reducing exposure to threats.
Strive Masiyiwa’s digital footprint
Cassava Technologies, founded by Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa, has been expanding Africa’s digital infrastructure through investments in fibre, fintech, and cloud services.
This push, which includes partnerships with Microsoft, Google Cloud, and Cloudflare, is being led by Liquid C2, its cloud arm. The AvePoint deal marks another step in one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing capacities to unlock the full potential of digital transformation, reinforcing Masiyiwa’s ambition to position Cassava as a central player in Africa’s digital economy.
The AvePoint deal underscores Masiyiwa’s broader ambitions beyond Liquid C2, with Cassava’s portfolio ranging from fibre networks under Liquid Intelligent Technologies to fintech via EcoCash Holdings. Masiyiwa, the country’s richest man, holds a net worth of more than $1.3 billion, according to Forbes.
