Nigeria’s president just praised billionaire Femi Otedola on his birthday, lauding his energy bets and philanthropy
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent birthday wishes to billionaire businessman Femi Otedola on Tuesday, hailing the Geregu Power chairman for “visionary entrepreneurship” and consistent support for national development, according to a State House statement.
Tinubu credited Otedola’s investments in the energy sector and his “exemplary business acumen” with helping spur economic growth. He also highlighted the mogul’s corporate social responsibility record, saying Otedola’s giving in education, healthcare, and youth programs has “touched countless lives.”
“As you add another year, I am particularly impressed by your decision to document for posterity that it is ‘possible to defy the odds, no matter how stacked they are against you,’” Tinubu said, adding a prayer for Otedola’s “good health, wisdom, and greater accomplishments.”
Otedola, who chairs Geregu Power Plc, is one of Nigeria’s most prominent private-sector figures and a frequent backer of social causes. He recently pledged ₦4 billion ($2.8 million) to build a dedicated electrical and electronics engineering block at Augustine University in Ilara-Epe and has given tens of millions of dollars to causes in child health and feeding, education, security and the arts.
