Siatech Africa, an infrastructure engineering company run by Nigerian entrepreneur Olanrewaju Olaniyan, has built Liberia's first fully solar-powered city. This is a big step toward making clean energy more accessible and including more people in the digital world in West Africa.

The project, developed in partnership with Huawei and Liberian government agencies, introduces a smart microgrid system that allows each neighborhood to generate and manage its own electricity while staying connected to a central grid for reliability. It uses automated energy tools that balance supply and demand, prevent waste and ensure steady power.

The solar-powered city is designed not just to deliver electricity but also to create new opportunities in education, healthcare and small business. It supports community hubs, schools and digital centers, offering reliable power and connectivity to thousands of residents.

“This project goes beyond power generation,” said Olanrewaju Olaniyan, Siatech Africa’s chief executive officer. “It’s about giving people the tools to improve their lives. When energy and technology meet, you open the door to learning, better healthcare, and entrepreneurship. That’s what we set out to achieve.”

He added that the success of the project shows how collaboration between governments and private companies can drive progress. “We believe Africa can build its own smart, green communities when local talent, innovation, and public partnerships come together,” Olaniyan said. “Our goal is to make this model something that can be adapted anywhere across the continent.”

Under Olaniyan’s leadership, Siatech Africa has quickly expanded its footprint in infrastructure and telecommunications. Two years after entering Ghana, the company received the Best Regional Collaboration Award for West Africa at the 2023 Huawei Partner Awards—recognition of its growing role in system engineering and network solutions.

Following the success in Liberia, Siatech Africa is now talking to partners in Ghana and Sierra Leone about starting similar projects there. The company says that these future sites will keep combining renewable energy with digital infrastructure in order to build self-sufficient, connected communities that get all their power from the sun.
