ElSewedy Industrial Development, a unit of Elsewedy Electric Group, has signed a cooperation agreement with Cairo-based Arabia Developments to build and manage a large industrial zone in New 6th of October City. The planned site covers more than 2 million square meters.

The agreement reflects the government’s broader push to increase domestic manufacturing and raise the share of local content in key industrial sectors. Officials have repeatedly said Egypt needs more privately run industrial zones that provide predictable services, quicker permitting and utilities that work without delays.

The private sector speaks

This is about Practical Investment Climate Gains “Industrial development today is no longer about selling land—it is about full solutions,” Ahmed El-Sewedy said at the ceremony. “Investors want a place where operations can start fast and where service providers are already in place.”

Tarek Shoukry, non-executive chairperson of Arabia Developments, described the deal as “a real milestone” for Arabia Developments, saying the company sees industrial growth and domestic value-addition as key to sustainable job creation.

Rabab Mostafa Abdel-Warith, deputy chairperson of Arabia Developments, said the alliance will help attract investors who want ready zones and predictable operational support rather than fragmented sites.

Elsewedy’s broader industrial pipeline

Elsewedy Electric was founded in 1938 as a small cable shop and has grown into a multinational with operations in 15 markets across the Middle East and Africa. The group is still led by the El-Sewedy family, one of Egypt’s wealthiest business families. Elsewedy Electric reported net profit of $298.5 million in the first nine months of 2025, with a revenue of $4.22 billion.

Elsewedy’s industrial development arm has completed 10 industrial park projects across 6 Egyptian and African locations. Some of its latest industrial deals include a September agreement with DP World Egypt to build a cold-storage facility, and an agreement with the Golden Triangle Economic Zone to develop an industrial and logistics hub in Upper Egypt.
