Emadeb Petroleum Exploration & Production Company Limited (Emadeb E&P), led by Nigerian energy mogul Adebowale Olujimi, has reached first oil at the Ibom Field (PPL 236), marking a key moment for Nigeria’s upstream oil sector. In a statement, the company said the achievement underscores its role as a fully integrated energy operator and highlights the growing impact of indigenous companies on Nigeria’s energy security and economic development.
Located about 30 kilometres offshore, the Ibom Field was first discovered in 1979 and holds an estimated 103 million barrels of oil in place. Since acquiring the field during the 2020 Marginal Field Bid Round, Emadeb E&P has invested over $100 million in a phased development plan approved by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission in November 2024.
Commitment to local expertise
“Through sustained investment, technical rigor, and collaboration, Emadeb E&P has begun commercial production at Ibom Field,” Olujimi said. “This milestone reflects our commitment to unlocking Nigeria’s hydrocarbon potential using homegrown expertise, fostering partnerships, and creating sustainable value. We are proud to support Nigeria’s energy goals, expand local content, and create jobs.”
The company plans a second phase to drill two additional wells, which is expected to triple production by the fourth quarter of 2026. Olujimi emphasized that operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and community engagement remain central to the company’s approach. “The Ibom Field development demonstrates effective collaboration between private operators and government institutions and serves as a model for marginal field commercialization and capacity building in Nigeria’s upstream sector,” he added.
Emadeb E&P’s journey
Founded in 2007 and operational since 2008, Emadeb E&P is a fully integrated oil and gas company. Its activities include crude oil exploration, storage and distribution of petroleum products, retailing, LNG and lubricant sales. Over the past 15 years the company has expanded its operations to meet Nigeria’s energy demand.
Under Adebowale Olujimi, with experience from both the public and private sectors, Emadeb navigated milestones in the downstream sector and later expanded into upstream operations. His focus on corporate governance, ethical practices and stakeholder relationships has guided the company’s growth as an indigenous oil and gas operator in Nigeria.
