Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Group, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, has disclosed that the company currently employs about 8,000 direct workers across Nigeria as it expands its manufacturing operations.
Chukwuma made the remarks on Saturday after hosting the management team of the Bank of Industry at his vehicle manufacturing facilities in Nnewi, Anambra State.
He said the workforce is expected to grow further, with plans to recruit an additional 2,000 employees in a new factory currently under development. According to him, staff strength will increase significantly once expansion projects are completed and new production lines become fully operational.
The industrialist said his long term goal remains youth empowerment through manufacturing and skills development. He noted that increasing local production capacity would create more employment opportunities and strengthen Nigeria industrial base.
On workplace structure, Chukwuma explained that women are assigned to sensitive sections of the factory due to what he described as their discipline and strict adherence to operational procedures.
He said accuracy and compliance are critical in certain technical areas, adding that women have consistently demonstrated reliability in those roles after receiving proper training.
Chukwuma also revealed that the group is establishing a tractor manufacturing plant at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He said the project is intended to improve access to affordable tractors for farmers and boost agricultural productivity nationwide.
He attributed much of Innoson growth to its longstanding partnership with the Bank of Industry, which he said has supported equipment acquisition and expansion efforts for more than two decades.
Mallam Omar Shekarau, Executive Director for Large Enterprises at the Bank of Industry, described Innoson journey as a success story of local enterprise development. He said the company has grown from modest beginnings into a nationally recognised manufacturing brand.
Shekarau pledged continued institutional support and urged Nigerians to patronise locally made vehicles and products to strengthen domestic industry and stimulate economic growth.
With ongoing factory expansion and new projects in agriculture equipment manufacturing, Chukwuma said Innoson remains committed to scaling production and deepening Nigeria self reliance in key industrial sectors.
