American billionaire Michael Dell’s fortune climbed sharply on October 6 as technology stocks rallied, briefly pushing his net worth to $280.6 billion and narrowing the gap between him and Google co-founder Larry Page.
According to Forbes, Dell’s fortune increased by more than $10 billion during trading, reaching $280.6 billion at around 12:30 p.m. Eastern time. The increase moved him into fourth place on the Forbes Real Time Billionaires list, putting him within a few billion dollars of Page.
The gain was driven largely by increases in the value of Dell’s holdings in Dell Technologies and Broadcom. Shares of Dell Technologies rose about 5% during the session before giving back some of those gains, while Broadcom also advanced.
By later in the trading session, Dell’s wealth gain had moderated to about $8.7 billion, Forbes reported. The movement highlights the sensitivity of his fortune to daily changes in technology stocks because a significant portion of his wealth is tied to his stakes in the two companies.
Dell Technologies has benefited from growing demand for infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence. The company reported record quarterly revenue of $47 billion in September, while revenue from AI optimized servers doubled to $16.4 billion. Dell Technologies also raised its fiscal 2027 forecast for AI server revenue to $74 billion from an earlier estimate of $60 billion.
The strong performance of technology companies has significantly reshaped Dell’s position among the world’s richest people this year. Forbes previously reported that his fortune had gained more than $100 billion in 2026 as demand for AI infrastructure boosted the value of his investments.
Dell founded the company that bears his name in 1984 and remains its chairman and chief executive. His holdings in Dell Technologies and Broadcom have made him one of the biggest individual beneficiaries of the technology sector’s recent market rally.
The latest rise puts Dell closer to Page, whose fortune Forbes estimated at about $284 billion around the same period. The two billionaires remain among the world’s wealthiest technology entrepreneurs, with their positions on the rankings continuing to fluctuate alongside their publicly traded holdings.
Dell’s latest wealth increase demonstrates how quickly fortunes at the top of the global billionaire rankings can change as investors reassess technology companies benefiting from the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence.
