A luxury estate once owned by Markus Jooste, the late CEO at the center of South Africa’s biggest corporate fraud, is up for sale in Hermanus for $5.8 million.
The announcement comes in the wake of Jooste’s tragic demise, which occurred on Thursday, a day after the FSCA levied a penalty of $25 million against him.
The circumstances surrounding Jooste’s death remain under investigation, with authorities confirming that he was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
Jooste, 62, is a South African businessman and the former CEO of Steinhoff International.
However, the intricate diplomatic process required for Jooste’s extradition remains uncertain.
This comes weeks after Jooste failed to appear in court, marking his first criminal charge since the collapse of Steinhoff.
Jooste is the face of South Africa’s largest private sector fraud scandal.
Nearly two weeks ago, Jooste was served two fines totaling $882,000.
Jooste was found to have violated listing requirements.
Steinhoff is a South African-German-Dutch global retail holding dual-listed in Germany and South Africa.
