Naivas, Kenya’s biggest retailer now led by Mauritius-based IBL Group, posted a 43% profit jump to $19 million in 2025 despite economic headwinds.
The leading retailer, which is majority-owned by the Kenyan Mukuha family, has also announced plans to add two more units by the end of the year.
The KRA’s demand is linked to a 31.5-percent stake sale in Naivas International in 2020 by members of the Mukuha family.
Naivas International was established in 1990 by the late Kenyan tycoon Peter Mukuha Kago.
Mambo Retail is an investment vehicle linked to IBL Group, a prominent Mauritius conglomerate led by Mauritian tycoon Arnaud Lagesse.
Once the deal is finalized, it will mark the third time the super-rich Mukuha family has divested part of their stake in Naivas.
Arnaud Lagesse, alongside his siblings Benoit, Hugues, Jean-Pierre, Thierry, and Stephane Lagesse, holds a 16.8-percent joint stake in IBL.
The leadership of the Mukuha family has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth.
