United Bank for Africa Plc, the pan-African financial services group led by Nigerian tycoon Tony Elumelu, has unveiled a $6-billion initiative.
The interim dividend payout will be deposited into Elumelu’s bank account on Fri., Oct. 6.
UBA, under the astute guidance of Elumelu, recorded a 437.8-percent surge in its profits in the first half of 2023.
Despite this substantial loss, Elumelu retains his status as one of the wealthiest investors in the local bourse.
Elumelu joins a prestigious group of 38 private sector leaders accompanying Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Nigeria-India presidential roundtable.
Elumelu, with a 7.17-percent stake in UBA, or 2,450,603,739 ordinary shares, ranks as one of the richest investors on the Nigerian Exchange.

Through his investment firm, HH Capital, Elumelu owns a 29.5-percent stake in Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp).

With the acquisition of an additional 7.3 million shares in Transcorp in June, Awele Elumelu’s total holdings in the company now stand at an impressive 2,070,794,804 shares.
Elumelu currently holds a 7.17-percent stake in UBA, or 2,450,603,739 ordinary shares.
The devaluation of the naira has eroded the gains that Elumelu would have enjoyed from the surge in UBA’s shares.
