Weeks after Nigerian businessman Tony Elumelu’s Heirs Energies acquired a $500 million stake in Seplat Energy, the company co-founded by Austin Avuru has started delivering gas from its ANOH project. The milestone follows regulatory approvals and the completion of an 11-kilometer export pipeline, marking a significant expansion in Nigeria’s energy production.

The project began supplying gas to Indorama’s petrochemical plant after Seplat secured approval from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission on Jan. 16, 2026, and brought four upstream wells online that had been idle since November.

Since start-up, wet gas output has stabilized between 40 million and 52 million standard cubic feet per day, with condensate at about 2,000 to 2,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Output is expected to rise toward the plant’s 300 million cubic feet-per-day capacity, and Seplat plans to supply processed gas to Nigeria LNG under an interruptible arrangement.

ANOH plant boosts Nigeria’s gas output

The ANOH gas plant is a joint venture between Seplat Energy and the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company. It has two gas processing trains, each handling 150 million cubic feet per day, liquefied petroleum gas recovery units, condensate stabilization facilities, and a 16-megawatt power plant.

The site operates without routine flaring under Seplat’s onshore flaring reduction program. Seplat holds a 50 percent stake in the ANOH Gas Processing Company, earning revenue from gas sales and dividends. The project also supports the company’s LPG supply chain, complementing output from Sapele and the Bonny River Terminal to serve Nigeria’s domestic cooking fuel market.

CEO Roger Brown said ANOH raises Seplat’s onshore gas processing capacity above 850 million cubic feet per day. He called it the first of seven government-backed gas projects to become operational and important for both Nigeria’s power sector and industrial needs.

Heirs Energies strengthens African energy capacity

Seplat, listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) and London Stock Exchange, reported 2P reserves of 1.043 billion barrels of oil equivalent at the end of 2024 and daily production of 135,600 barrels as of October 2025, supported by recent acquisitions including Mobil Producing Nigeria. Austin Avuru holds more than 50 million shares.

Heirs Energies, chaired by Tony Elumelu, operates OML 17, producing over 50,000 barrels of oil and 120 MMscfd of gas daily. The company acquired a 20.07 percent stake in Seplat for nearly $500 million after securing $750 million from the African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank), highlighting growing African capacity to finance and manage strategic energy assets.
