The IRS is coming after Quavo, and the bill is steep.

Federal documents filed in January show the Internal Revenue Service placed a tax lien against the Atlanta rapper, whose legal name is Quavious Keyate Marshall, alleging he failed to pay federal income taxes across three consecutive years. The total alleged debt comes to $2,912,644.33.

The lien covers tax years 2021, 2022 and 2023. According to the documents, the IRS claims Quavo owes $915,660 for 2021, $887,486 for 2022 and $1,109,497.79 for 2023. TMZ first reported the filing.

As of this writing, neither Quavo nor his representatives have issued a public statement addressing the lien or indicating whether the debt has been paid, disputed or is currently being negotiated with the agency.

A federal tax lien is not a criminal charge. It is a civil action the IRS uses to establish a legal claim against a taxpayer's property after a debt has been assessed and a demand for payment has gone unmet. The lien attaches to a taxpayer's property and can affect credit, business dealings and future financial transactions until the debt is resolved. Asset seizure, which would require a separate IRS action called a levy, has not been reported in this case.

The filing lands at an uncomfortable moment on the calendar. Tax season is in full swing, with millions of Americans working toward the April 15 deadline, and the public nature of a federal lien puts celebrity finances under a sharper microscope than usual.

It also arrives with a notable Migos footnote. Quavo's tax troubles follow those of bandmate Offset, who reportedly paid a $1.5 million tax debt tied to the 2022 tax year, with the IRS releasing that lien in December 2025. Offset still allegedly owes $486,426.35 for 2023 and $292,000 for 2021, according to Us Weekly.

Quavo rose to global prominence as a core member of Migos, the Atlanta trio that helped define trap music's commercial peak in the mid-2010s. The group earned Grammy nominations and a string of platinum records before tragedy reshaped its future. In November 2022, Quavo's nephew and fellow Migos member Takeoff was shot and killed outside a Houston bowling alley at age 28. The loss effectively ended the group, though Quavo and Offset have since spoken publicly about maintaining their relationship.

Quavo has not addressed the lien publicly and is currently promoting his headlining set at Mad Island Festival in St. Martin later this month. Whether he takes the path Offset did and settles the debt quietly, or contests the IRS's claims, remains to be seen. The lien will stay on public record until it is resolved.
