The production of Denzel Washington's latest Netflix project has been put on hold, according to reports from Onmanorama and entertainment industry sources, adding to a growing list of high-profile film delays affecting the streaming giant's slate.

Washington, 71, is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood and has maintained an active production schedule in recent years, including his role in Ridley Scott's Gladiator II in 2024. The Netflix project, details of which have not been formally disclosed, was in active pre-production or early principal photography before the halt was called.

Netflix did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Washington's representatives also did not provide an official statement on the delay.

Production halts of this kind typically arise from scheduling conflicts, script revisions, financing adjustments, or logistical issues with key talent or crew availability. In Washington's case, the delay comes as he juggles multiple commitments, including his established stage presence and a filmography that has become increasingly selective in recent years.

Washington has won two Academy Awards over a career spanning five decades, making him the second most Oscar-nominated Black actor in Academy history. His commercial and critical standing gives him significant leverage over his projects, and his involvement typically anchors the financial and marketing structure of any production he joins.

The Netflix halt does not affect his other announced projects. Washington remains one of the most bankable names in the global film industry, and Netflix's appetite for talent of his stature has not diminished. The streaming platform has committed billions annually to original film production and has built several of its most commercially successful titles around partnerships with legacy Hollywood talent.

A timeline for the resumption of production was not disclosed.
