Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa’s Cassava Technologies has brought back data centre executive Dan Kwach to lead its artificial intelligence infrastructure expansion as the technology group seeks to build greater AI computing capacity across Africa.

Kwach has returned to Africa Data Centres (ADC), Cassava’s data centre subsidiary, as executive for AI Data Centres. He announced the move on LinkedIn, saying he had returned to Nairobi after a short period in Madagascar and would join Cassava’s AI team under ADC.

His appointment comes less than a year after he left ADC following a 19 year career with the group. In December 2025, Kwach left his position as ADC’s East Africa managing director to become deputy chief executive of STELLARIX, a Madagascar based data centre and cloud infrastructure company.

Kwach previously played a role in developing ADC’s East African operations, having joined the wider group in 2006 through Kenya Data Networks. He later became involved in building the East Africa Data Centre business and was appointed ADC’s managing director for East Africa in 2021.

His return comes as Cassava accelerates its push into AI infrastructure. The company is deploying NVIDIA powered AI factories, beginning in South Africa, with plans to expand the infrastructure to Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt and Morocco. These facilities are designed to provide computing capacity for developing and running AI applications in African markets.

Cassava has also partnered with Vodafone Business to develop Egypt’s first national AI factory, using NVIDIA accelerated computing technology to support local AI applications and data processing.

Masiyiwa, who founded Cassava Technologies and serves as its executive chairman, is one of Africa’s established technology billionaires. Forbes estimated his net worth at $2.1 billion in September 2026.

Kwach said his new role would focus on building and operating AI data centre infrastructure while creating opportunities within Africa’s digital economy. His appointment places an experienced data centre executive at the centre of Cassava’s efforts to expand the continent’s AI infrastructure.
