Indian billionaire Gautam Adani’s Adani Power reported a 134% increase in consolidated net profit for the second quarter of its 2026/27 financial year, supported by stronger electricity demand and financial gains.

The Indian power producer recorded net profit of ₹69.19 billion ($729 million) for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, compared with ₹29.53 billion in the corresponding period a year earlier, according to results reported on October 23.

Revenue rose 45% year over year, according to The Economic Times. Reuters reported that weaker monsoon conditions likely supported electricity demand, benefiting thermal power producers.

The contribution from one-off financial gains is important when assessing the results, as the increase in reported net profit does not necessarily reflect an equivalent improvement in recurring operating earnings.

Adani Power operates thermal power plants in India and supplies electricity to the country’s power market. Its financial performance is influenced by electricity demand, plant utilisation, fuel costs and power prices.

The latest results come as India continues to meet rising electricity demand while investing in additional generation capacity. Thermal power remains an important part of the country’s electricity supply, particularly during periods of elevated consumption.

Adani Power is part of the Adani Group, the conglomerate founded by Gautam Adani, whose businesses span ports, energy and infrastructure. The group’s companies report their financial results separately.

The quarterly results highlight the combined effect of stronger electricity demand and one-off gains on Adani Power’s profitability. Investors will also be watching operating performance and recurring earnings to assess whether the improvement can be sustained in subsequent quarters.
