David Langat, a prominent Kenyan businessman and founder of the DL Group, one of East Africa’s major private conglomerates, has donated a $1-million private primary school in Koilot, located in Nandi County of Kenya’s North Rift region.

The school, now serving 600 students, was officially transferred to the Anglican Diocese of Kapsabet by Langat on Tuesday. It’s intended to serve as both a revenue source for the church and a means to assist underserved segments of society.

Langat envisions the school, dubbed the ACK Dr. David Langat School, as a self-reliant entity. He hopes it will aid the Anglican church with financial needs while also supporting underprivileged children in obtaining a quality education.

At 58, Langat is among Kenya’s wealthiest entrepreneurs with the DL Group holding stakes in sectors like tea production, hotel management, and energy. However, his success hasn’t been without challenges. In July, auctioneers in Nairobi declared plans to sell off his renowned DL Koisagat tea estate in Nandi due to debt servicing issues within his companies. This auction, however, was later called off.
